With comedians Gibran Saad, Aleks with a K, The Wolf, and S3 everyone had a great night and couples from all over El Paso, Las Cruces and surrounding areas laughed the night away. The comedy show was followed by Gaga in Candyland Miss Sweetheart 2010 one of The New OP’s famous drag shows, a fun and surreal way to end the most romantic day of the year. Comedians Jake Sharon and Mark Lee PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joey B.
Monday, 02 November 2009 14:17

Mark Lee and Jake SharonJake Sharon and Mark Lee were in town this past Oct. 28 and they entertained us with weird and bizarre, yet refined, stories. (Some of them involving poop) But these two were great performers and the crowd at Maverick's Bar & Grill  loved every second of it.

The show was hosted by local comedian Phil Robinet, "Phildo" has performed at the comic strip and has performed as a guest at comedy clubs all over Texas. Next on the stage was comedian Mark Lee. Mark's high-energy comedy is original, sometimes completely absurd, his unpredictable style constantly leaves people wondering what he will do next.  He can be seen playing the principle role of “Jimmy” in the Emmy award winning “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know”.  Mark is a regular at the legendary Comedy Works in Denver, where he has with Jamie Kennedy, Aisha Tyler, Kevin Pollak,  Joe Rogan, and many other notables. Headliner Jake Sharon made the finals in USA's Show Us Your Character contest, appeared on Elimidate, took 1st in the Starz/ Jumpcut Stand-up Contest, and made it into the 2005 and 2006 Boston Comedy Festival. Check out the pictures from the show and be sure to keep checking out the show!

Laughter Profile: Beto "IBM" Sanchez PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joey B.
Monday, 31 August 2009 17:41

Beto SanchezLaughter Profile is a new feature to scc.com, this bi-weekly column will feature interviews with members of Sun City Comedy as well as seasoned performers from all over the country.

Beto “IBM” Sanchez is one of those people you see all the time but you fail to notice he is there until he says something totally hilarious, named by his fellow comedians the “Itty Bitty Mexican” he was born and raised in El Paso Texas; he is the oldest of three and the shortest of three. And although he is of short statue his comedy can command enormous crowds, this has earned him the privilege to work with national touring comedian as well as showcase his talent at comedy clubs around the area.

I met with Beto at a local taco eatery that I rather not mention by full name because my editor believes we can get sued (and apparently with good reason click here to see what I am taking about) but I can say it rhymes with “Ticos Chacos.”  One of the first things I notices he is shorter than most people, even for El Paso, after introductions were done we began the interview by daring each other to do shots of green chili provided by the establishment; between burning sensations and thoughts of a horrific bathroom visit the next morning I managed to get some questions in.

Sun City Comedy: So how is it living in El Paso all your life?
Beto Sanchez: I love El Paso,
I can not stand people who say they hate El Paso, because those people are the ones that leave and come back like four months later saying they missed it. I plan to live in El Paso for a little longer until I graduate from school and have a few years experience in web design.
